I had a wonderful time creating illustrations for The Bold and the Beautiful! For this series, we had multiple fashion houses competing and each needed sketches/final artworks.
Because of the quick turn around nature of the show, rarely did I have outfits provided to me ahead of time from wardrobe. Instead, I would get the general style of each fashion line and use that as the basis for my fashion trend research. I studied the current style trends in high fashion utilizing fashion blogs and magazines. Using the current trends and runway styles as inspiration, I drew numerous sketches and created fully colored watercolor illustrations digitally. I then printed them on sketch paper and drew over them with charcoal, pencil, and/or pastels to create a realistic, hand drawn look.
An important thing to keep in mind while drawing was "What will the camera see?" For this reason, I had to exaggerate shadows, highlights, and color. We featured illustrations only when the script required it, so for everything else the illustration had to read in a wide shot. Subtlety does not read on camera.
Many times we would shoot sketches loose on a drawing table in the show's "Design Office", hung up on the wall, or on a mood board. Other times I would spray mount the illustrations to a drawing pad so it would look like the character is casually sketching in their office.

Ridge Illustrations

For Ridge, I wanted his drawings to look classic and bold. Even his sketches had to look dramatic. The character of Ridge (frequently sketching on camera) was the head of "Forrester Creations" and the lead creative force in his company for years.
VARIOUS SKETCHES

Deke Illustrations
The character of Deke was a young designer just coming out of college. I wanted to him to have an original, different style which looked a little more cutting edge. I studied some more stylized fashion illustrators and ran from there.

SKETCHES

Zende Thomas Illustrations
The duo Zende and Thomas are supposed to be designers who have worked at Forrester Creations multiple times. I gave their sketches a more polished look and finished it with a pre-existing logo and new signature.

Brooke's Bedroom Illustrations

Brooke, one of the established characters, decides to open her own fashion line of lingerie. Being Ridge's wife, we wanted her fashion line to look classy and high fashion - something that a grown woman would want to wear. Her style could also not be too revealing (for daytime television).
