For All Mankind imagines a world where the Soviet Union lands the first human on the moon in 1969, rather than the United States. This pivotal moment keeps the space race alive, driving rapid technological advancements, intense geopolitical tension, and a more aggressive push for lunar and Martian exploration. Following the initial Soviet win, NASA is pressured to expand its efforts leading to faster developments.

In Season 4, Episode 7 of "For All Mankind", I was led by designer Seth Reed and the talented Supervising Art Director Ellen King to create a realistic alternative reality. Even though this show takes place in an alternative timeline, everything had to be grounded in reality. In the scene below, Aleida is interviewed on "American Now”, a news segment produced by Eagle News.

For this segment, we needed a full "America Now" branding which included the logo, studio decoration, standees, hallways graphics and exterior posters. Below are some of the most prominent pieces.

SOVIET GRAPHICS

We had a great number of sets taking place in what would have currently been the Soviet Union. Nothing was to be made surreal and everything was historically influenced by real posters and figures in history. I immersed myself in historical soviet propaganda to create realistic printed materials. I also designed many graphics in Russian, for which we had an interpreter who helped us display text accurately.

This was one of my most loved assignments on the show. Representing historical graphics is one of my favorite parts of being a designer. It gives me a chance to not only delve into the history of the subject I'm designing for, but also study the printing technologies and graphic trends of the time and region.
